BUNKER HILL — A 59-year-old Kokomo woman had a gun hidden in her bra Saturday when she tried to visit her son at the Miami Correctional Facility, prison officials say.
Nancy Tyler was trying to visit her son, Tyson Nix, who is incarcerated for car theft and receiving stolen property, when prison guards conducted a frisk.
The guards discovered she had a .22-caliber handgun hidden in her bra. Tyler admitted the weapon was hers, prison officials said.
Tyler was questioned by a prison police officer and a Miami County deputy, but no charges were immediately brought against her.
Prison officials say the matter is still under investigation by the facility’s internal affairs department, and a report will be sent to the Miami County Prosecutor’s Office.
“This could have been a very bad situation for all,” said prison superintendent Mark Sevier. “Staff reacted appropriately and professionally, taking into consideration the safety and security of all involved.”
