BOGALUSA, La. — Five ex-officers and 16 inmates have been indicted in connection with a jailhouse beating of one inmate and a rape of another, the Associated Press reports.
According to Louisiana District Attorney Warren Montgomery, a grand jury changed two ex-sheriff’s deputies with aggravated second-degree battery and all five with malfeasance in office.
16 inmates have been charged with simple battery, with two facing additional charges of first-degree rape during an incident that occurred between Sept. 4 and Sept. 5.
Two former officers are accused of using a power cord to harm an inmate between July 26 and Sept. 5, according to Montgomery. One of them is also charged with second-degree battery against the same inmate.
