BATH — A Steuben County corrections officer was one of the three people arrested Friday for allegedly participating in a pair of attempted armed robberies in Bath.
Derek A. Storms, 25, was a probationary officer at the Steuben County Jail when he allegedly participated in the robbery attempts last week. County Sheriff David Cole confirmed Wednesday that Storms was placed on administrative leave last week by former county Sheriff Joel Ordway.
According to county personnel records, Storms was hired in October 2012, at a salary of $32,926. The sheriff said he expected to meet with Storms later Wednesday to discuss the correction officer’s employment with the county.
“I don’t think he’ll be with us much longer,” Cole said.
Storms, 25, of Wellsville, is charged with two counts of first-degree attempted robbery and two counts of fourth-degree conspiracy.
According to the Bath Police Department, officers responded to a call reporting a woman had been assaulted at 7 Colonial Lawns just after midnight Friday. The unidentified woman was treated and released from a nearby hospital, according to police.
Less than an hour later, officers were dispatched to 12 W. Washington St., where a man reported people had entered the upstairs apartment armed with handguns. Reports indicated a weapon was discharged some time during the incident.
Several hours later, after a joint investigation by village and state police, Storms, Jordan A. Guerin, 18, and Sheila D. Gay, 23, both of Bath, were each charged with armed robbery and conspiracy.
Guerin and Gay were sent to Steuben County Jail without bail. Storms was sent to Livingston County Jail without bail.
