COLUMBUS, Ohio — A former officer has been sentenced to 24 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of having sex with inmates when he worked at the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville.
Union County Common Pleas Judge Don Fraser sentenced Willie E. Mapp, 54, on eight felony counts of sexual battery last month.
“You were entrusted by the citizens of the state of Ohio to hold a position of trust,” Fraser said. “Instead, you chose to violate the trust, and you used your position to compel three victims to submit to sexual conduct.”
Authorities say that Mapp threatened three inmates with consequences such as solitary confinement if they didn’t perform oral sex on him in a staff bathroom.
Mapp was a corrections officer at the prison from 1997 until July 2004, when the allegations surfaced. The case dragged on for years because authorities had trouble tracking down some of the former inmates.
