HAGARSTOWN, Md. — Two more former prison guards and a former officer at a correctional facility in Maryland pleaded guilty in an inmate assault, the U.S. Justice Department said.
Edwin Stigile, formerly a lieutenant at Roxbury Correctional Institution in Hagerstown, and former guards Tyson Hinckle and Reginald Martin, pleaded guilty in a 2008 assault of an inmate as punishment for the inmate’s hitting a guard, Department of Justice officials said Thursday in a release.
The three are the latest ex-Roxbury corrections officers to enter a plea in the federal investigation into a series of assaults that an inmate identified as K.D. suffered March 8-9, 2008, the Justice Department said. Hinckle pleaded guilty to conspiring to assault the inmate; Martin pleaded guilty to failing to intervene and Stigile pleaded guilty to destroying evidence.
