BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Two separate inmate stabbings occurred during Memorial Day weekend at an Alabama correctional facility.
According to local news station WAFF, corrections officers took two inmates to a local hospital to be treated for stab wounds on Saturday evening. A third inmate, who is identified as the suspect in the stabbings, was removed from general population. A knife was found at the scene of the incident.
One of the inmates has been released from the hospital while the other remains in serious condition.
A second stabbing occurred on Sunday morning in the same cell blocks as the stabbing the night before.
The victim was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition. The suspect, who shared the same cell as the victim, confessed to the stabbing and gave up the makeshift knife to officers.
