Contraband: Battery nails

A C1 member wrote, “Correctional officers were recently conducting inmate cell searches when they discovered several AA batteries that had been modified for purposes outside traditional use.

Inmates are removing the bottom portions of batteries to gain access to sharp metal components resembling nails that are in the inside of the battery.

Corrections officers were able to duplicate the same results using a standard AA battery as shown below.

Once removed, the “nails” can be used as weapons or tattoo needles.”
