MALONE, NY – A dozen inmates were involved in a brawl at the Bare Hill Correctional Facility that allegedly stemmed from conflict over the television schedule.

COs responded to the fighting around 4 a.m.; inmates were ordered to stop fighting, but did not comply, according to the Watertown Daily Times. Two factions allegedly initiated the fight over choice of TV programs.

Smoke from a dry chemical fire extinguisher that was discharged made it difficult for officers to identify the inmates, but order was restored once the smoke cleared.

Several inmates were injured and required treatment. A search of the room following the fight turned up two padlocks inside black socks that were used as weapons during the fight.

An investigation of the fight is ongoing.
