SYRACRUSE, NY — An inmate is accused of injuring two correctional officers during a hospital visit.

The Syracruse reports that a Cayuga Correctional Facility inmate used a makeshift piece of metal to stab a correctional officer four times in the chest, head, neck and back. The incident occurred in the inmate’s room in a secure unit of the Upstate University Hospital in Syracruse.

The inmate was subdued by two officers responding to the stabbing.

The wounded officer’s injuries were not life-threatening, and he was treated at the hospital. He was released Wednesday.

Another officer responding to the incident suffered a separated shoulder, and was also treated and released.

The inmate also attacked a doctor attempting to treat him but it’s unclear if the doctor was injured.
