HOUSTON, Texas — The Harris County inmate who slashed one officer in the face and injured another in the hand on Monday is no stranger to hiding contraband weapons from correctional staff.
ABC News reports that Weylin Alford was caught with a shank in October of this year while in a courtroom, and officers located two more inside of his cell.
Currently, jail officials are weighing options to keep materials out of Alford’s hands to prevent him from creating more weapons in the future.
Those options include limiting what he can buy at the commissary, restricting access to potential weapon-making items to the hour he’s allowed out of his cell for hygiene purposes, and then ensuring they remove all those items before he returns to his cell.
