LONDON — A man in Britain being sought by police after breaking his probation conditions decided that prison would be better than more time with the people he was living with and turned himself in.

“Peace and quiet!” tweeted Darren Taylor, a police officer in the southern English county of West Sussex, on Thursday. “One in custody and heading back to prison to serve some further time on his own.”

According to the statement, the man’s probation was turned into a prison sentence after he failed to meet its conditions. He turned himself in on Wednesday afternoon in the town of Burgess Hill, said the officer. It was not known with whom the man had been living.
