Claims she was punished because of her gender

LACKAWANNA COUNTY, N.C. — A North Carolina correctional officer, who claims she was demoted and had her pay cut after a near fatal inmate beating in 2010, is suing to have her lieutenant rank and pay restored.

Nancy Carroll claims she was punished because of her gender for supposedly violating an unspecified policy while several of her male colleagues received “preferential treatment,” according to The Times-Tribune.

After one inmate savagely beat another, county officials disciplined four employees on duty during the time of the attack, including Lt. Carroll. The suit demands not only the reinstatement of Carroll’s rank and pay, but also calls for a public apology.

It further claims Carroll, the county prison’s “sole woman lieutenant,” had no disciplinary warnings in her file, and that she did not violate any policy.
