WHITESTOWN, N.Y. — Four people were injured Monday afternoon after a crash involving an Oneida County Sheriff’s Office transport van, deputies said.

The crash was reported at about 4:20 p.m. at Oriskany Boulevard and State Route 291 in the town of Whitestown, according to a news release from Robert Maciol, the county sheriff.

Samantha Wright, a corrections transport officer, was driving west on Oriskany Boulevard at the time of the crash, Maciol said.

The van was struck by a Jeep driven by Benjamin Nelson, he said.

Nelson was driving east on Oriskany Boulevard and failed to yield the right of way while trying to turn left onto State Route 291, Maciol said.

Wright was in the van with another corrections officer and two inmates. All four of them were taken to the hospital for minor injuries, Maciol said.

Nelson, 18, of Deerfield, was released with an appearance ticket to return to Whitestown town court.
