ANCHORAGE — A correctional officer was killed in a vehicle collision last Friday, and his wife is currently fighting for her life in the ICU.
KTUU reports that Ofc. Thomas Kobel was pronounced dead on the scene, along with the driver of the other vehicle, Derek Monk.
Kobel’s wife, Lindie Kobel, was airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Monk’s 15-year-old son was the other passenger in his vehicle and was taken by ambulance to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Monk lost control of his Dodge Durango on Friday, crossing the median and colliding with the Kobels’ Hyundai Santa Fe.
Police are still investigating the collision, and thanked good Samaritans who helped provide on-scene medical attention and first aid to the victims.
