PROVIDENCE — More than 300 family and friends filled Rhode Island College’s Sapinsley Hall yesterday afternoon to celebrate 54 graduates of the Department of Corrections’ training academy, where, one speaker said, the new corrections officers may have learned their least important lessons.
Attorney General Patrick C. Lynch said he meant no disrespect to the staff of the Correctional Officer Training Academy, but the most important things a correctional officer needs to know are not in the lessons their instructors drilled into their heads, but the character that their families have been developing in them all their lives ...
