LAS VEGAS — Inmates delivered CPR to a corrections officer who suffered an apparent heart attack inside a county jail.

The officer – who has not been identified – collapsed while on duty at the Clark County Detention Denter.

A group of inmates, led by Sergio Leyva, rushed to his rescue after witnessing the medical emergency, according to My News 3.

“No breathing, no heartbeat. I did CPR on him,” Leyva said. And, basically brought him back to life.”

Metro police officer Bill Cassell corroborated the story, saying that other officers were calling for assistance while an inmate performed CPR on the stricken officer.

Leyva said he saw the man not as an officer, but as another person. He said the experience is a building block for when he pays his debt to society.
