MCHENRY COUNTY, Ill. — A woman whose millionaire ex-husband was convicted of trying to kill her contends he is at it again from behind bars.
Carolyn Mahoney filed a suit this week in McHenry County charging that her ex-husband, Billy Cox, solicited fellow inmates at Dixon Correctional Center to murder her, and that at least one inmate agreed to. The suit says the Illinois Department of Corrections informed Mahoney of the plot but offers no other evidence to support its claims.
In 2007, Cox, who had founded Exacto Inc., a successful agricultural business, was convicted of and sentenced to 20 years in prison for bludgeoning his wife and then locking her in the garage of their Bull Valley mansion with cars running.
