RICHMOND, Calif. — A Contra Costa County jail inmate remained in critical condition this morning after a severe beating from other inmates, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

A medical helicopter took the 47-year-old Concord resident to a regional trauma center after deputies discovered him at the West Contra Costa Detention Facility on Giant Road in Richmond, sheriff’s spokesman Jimmy Lee said.

Authorities did not immediately identify the victim, who awaited proceedings on a burglary charge.

Deputies identified no suspects Monday morning, but continued to investigate the case as a felony battery, Lee said.
