SAN DIEGO — Authorities say an inmate at the Richard J. Donovan state prison in San Diego apparently committed suicide over the weekend.
The San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office says guards found 32-year-old Benjamin Pilarczyk of Fremont hanging from a bed sheet tied around his neck just before 8 a.m. Sunday.
Officials say Pilarczyk was taken to the prison infirmary, where he was pronounced dead.
The prison in the Otay Mesa area houses about 4,700 male inmates.
