ELYRIA, Ohio — Surveillance video shows an inmate attacking an officer while he was being booked into jail.
Inmate Anthony Thomas was arrested on outstanding warrants, according to The Chronicle-Telegram.
The attack happened when officer William Witt removed the man’s handcuffs and sat behind the booking counter to review his arrest warrant.
Thomas used that moment to lunge over the counter and pounce on the officer. He punched him repeatedly in the face.
Nearby officers heard the commotion and were able to control Thomas. He was charged with assault on a police officer as well as contempt of court on drunken driving.
