TUCSON, Ariz. — The names of two corrections officers were added to those honored for giving their lives in the line of duty while serving with the Arizona Department of Corrections.
According to the Trivalley Central, CO David Ekstrand and CO Douglas Falconer were both added to the list of line of duty deaths.
Ekstrand was killed on his way to work when he stopped to render aid to victims of a traffic accident in November of 2006. He was fatally struck by a semi-truck that lost control.
Falconer suffered cardiac arrest while overseeing an inmate fire crew in October of 2008.
“One of the most profound occasions for those who work in law enforcement is the time we take to honor those men and women who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their fellow citizens,” said Director Charles L. Ryan.
“Ultimately, we celebrate the ‘espirt de corps’ that binds our profession as we remember our fallen and salute Lt. Ekstrand and Officer Falconer, who represented their profession with profound dedication and commitment.”
