PHOENIX — Prosecutors are seeking an 8- to 10-year prison sentence for an Oklahoma man convicted on charges that he mailed an inoperable homemade bomb to Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Gregory Lynn Shrader of Jay, Oklahoma, was convicted in September on charges of making a threat by means of explosive material, transportation of explosive material, mailing an injurious item and possession of explosive materials by a felon.

Prosecutors say Shrader wasn’t motivated by animosity toward Arpaio and instead sent the package in April 2013 in hopes of framing a former business partner.

Investigators say Shrader drove with a relative from Oklahoma to Arizona to put the bomb in the collection-box unit in Flagstaff.

Authorities say the relative told them that she saw Shrader place the parcel into the mailbox.
