JACKSON COUNTY, Ga. — A correctional officer for the Jackson County Road Department was charged this week with selling tobacco products to an inmate serving time at the Jackson County Correctional Institute in Jefferson.

Timothy W. Moody, 27, of Commerce was charged with violating the oath of a public officer and crossing a guard line with the contraband. The guard line is a prohibited area around the prison and includes the fleet maintenance area and road department.

The arrest occurred after an internal investigation by Georgia Department of Corrections officer Linda Ashworth of Forsyth. She interviewed the inmate, who accepted the tobacco, and Moody, who gave a statement admitting to the crimes, according to a Jackson County Sheriff’s report.
