Jason R. Cozmanoff, 42, of Crown Point, Ind. has been charged in connection with the hit-and-run incident that left a correctional officer dead.

LAKE COUNTY, Ind. — A man who struck and killed a corrections officer two years ago was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

According to CBS News, Jason Cozmanoff was driving an SUV that hit four corrections officers as they jogged along the side of the road in a training exercise.

Britney Meux was killed instantly. The others were seriously injured.

Cozmanoff left the scene but turned himself into police 24 hours later.

Evidence showed that the driver did not brake as he slammed into the group at 65 mph.
