SCIOTO COUNTY, W.V. — A West Virginia inmate already serving a 10-year sentence for rape was given an additional sentence of 8 years for attacking a corrections officer.
Alonzo Johnson was convicted of a felonious assault on a corrections officer after only six minutes of deliberation, according to WSAZ. Witnesses had testified in the trial that Johnson left the dining hall and hit Corrections Officer Jeffrey Meier in the head and face repeatedly.
After several minutes of struggle, officers were able to restrain Johnson. Meier received several injuries, which have prevented him from returning to work.
