TULSA, Okla. — A judge has ruled that a 16-year-old Oklahoma boy will stand trial as an adult in the stabbing deaths of his parents and three siblings.
Special Judge Martha Rupp Carter rejected a request Monday by Michael Bever’s defense attorneys to consider certifying the teen as a juvenile delinquent or youthful offender in the mass killing case.
Bever’s attorneys say they plan to appeal the ruling.
Michael Bever and his brother, 18-year-old Robert Bever, are charged with first-degree murder in the July deaths of their family at their Broken Arrow home. They have pleaded not guilty.
The brothers are scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Jan. 22 in Tulsa district court.
