CRANSTON, R.I. — Facebook has made its way back into the world of corrections news. This time, it wasn’t an inmate who slipped up on the social networking site, but an officer.

27-year-old Matthew Lacroix is in hot water after he pretended to be his boss on a Facebook page, according to a Providence Journal report. He was arrested by state police and charged with use of fraudulent information. He pled guilty to the charge and was ordered to pay a $500 fine.

Lacroix is an officer at the Adult Correctional Institution; his boss is Department of Corrections head A.T. Wall.

The Journal reports that Lacroix used his neighbor’s computer to create the false page, and he admitted to detectives that he had done so to avoid getting in trouble. He has been placed on administrative leave with pay, pending the results of an administrative hearing.
