SAN JOSE — A woman who had to be talked down from jumping off of an overpass above Interstate 680 in San Jose has bitten off the finger of a Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputy while she was being booked into jail.
The Mercury News reports that Sandy Quinones, 26, bit a female deputy while she was in the intake area of the Santa Clara County jail so hard that she severed the deputy’s finger.
The deputy, whose name has not been released, was treated at a nearby hospital. Her condition is unknown.
Quinones was arrested under suspicion of trespassing, resisting arrest and being under the influence of drugs following a 9-hour standoff with police. Interstate 680 was shut down for hours while authorities struggled to talk her down from jumping from an overpass.
She is currently being held at the Santa Clara County jail on $10,000 bail.
