This year has seen a lot of argument over the death penalty, mainly when it comes to lethal injection. The executions of Dennis McGuire and Clayton Lockett had some wondering if states would abolish the death penalty altogether, while some states started looking at alternative methods, such as the electric chair or firing squad.
Oklahoma came under the most scrutiny of the year after Lockett’s execution, and ended up rolling out new policies and a whole new death chamber.
This year has seen 31 executions so far, and will likely finish just below 2013’s total (39) at 36. Here are those who have been executed thus far in 2014.
