WARREN, Maine — The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency says six people have been charged for trying to smuggle drugs into the state prison.

Law enforcement officials said Friday they conducted a two-month investigation and seized 28 Suboxone strips that were packaged and destined for the state prison during visiting hours.

Officials say 29-year-old Manny Sylvia of New Bedford, Massachusetts, who is accused of mailing drugs to Maine, was arrested in Massachusetts Tuesday and charged with aggravated trafficking. He was recently released from Maine State Prison after serving a sentence for trafficking drugs.

Also facing charges are 18-year-old Emily Michaud, 37-year-old Rosa Colon, 31-year-old Michael Bailey, 33-year-old Jorge Santiago and 20-year-old Tyler Crawford. Bailey, Santiago and Crawford are prisoners in Warren.

It wasn’t immediately clear if they have lawyers.
