ATHENS, Ala. — An Elkmont man arrested for public intoxication faces additional charges after a corrections officer found a stolen pistol the suspect hid in a body cavity, according to the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a prowler call on Esten Lane shortly after midnight Tuesday morning. The caller found Jesse O’Neal Roberts, 23, near the caller’s garage and detained him at gunpoint until deputies arrived, said Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely.
Roberts showed signs of impairment and was placed under arrest for public intoxication, he said. Deputies also found a truck in a ditch near Esten Lane. Robert’s wallet was in the truck, he said.
After arriving at the jail, corrections officers noticed Roberts was walking strangely. While being searched, Roberts stumbled and a pistol fell from his body cavity, according to Blakely.
“I immediately considered that he defecated on himself before noticing a familiar shape in the form of a pistol in his boxers,” a corrections officer said in his report, according to Blakely.
The weapon, which was unloaded, was a Jimenez .380, Blakely said, and the serial number indicates it was stolen from Florence.
Roberts was charged with first-degree promoting prison contraband, fourth-degree receiving stolen property, public intoxication and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, Blakely said. Roberts was being held in Limestone County Jail with bail set at $7,250.
