HINDS COUNTY, Miss. — Former Hinds County Sheriff Department corrections officer, Jackie Jenkins, is suing her former employer after being fired and arrested.
She was arrested and charged with bringing contraband into a jail facility on Aug. 31. The same evening, two female inmates escaped from the Downtown detention center where she worked. Another co-worker, Peter Green, was fired, arrested and charged with aiding in their escape.
Jenkins claims she had nothing to do with the escape and did not bring contraband into the facility.
Othor Cain, sheriff department spokesperson, said Jenkins was fired and arrested because she failed to follow policy.
“Tobacco products of any kind are not allowed in our facility at all,” he said.
“She was fired and arrested for introduction of contraband into a correctional facility.”
