ALBANY — An inmate who got himself transported to a hospital after swallowing a battery caused an evacuation after he claimed he had also swallowed an explosive.
The Times Union reports that jail officials performed an X-ray on Spencer Durham to prove that the inmate had swallowed a battery. The scan showed either an AA or AAA battery in his stomach.
Once Durham had been transported to the hospital, he informed officials that he had also swallowed the explosive C-4.
The hospital followed policy and evacuated a couple of hospital rooms.
The C-4 claim was later proven to be false. Currently Durham is being monitored while officials and health care professionals wait for the battery to pass.
Durham is currently serving time for a grand larceny charge.
