Was using a smuggled cell phone

MCCORMICK, S.C. — A mother who thought she’d heard the last of her son’s killer was surprised to see a message from him pop up on facebook.

“How is my son in the grave and [his killer is] in a prison cell looking like he’s having the time of his life,” the victim’s mother told WLTX, declining to be identified.

Duffy McDowell was convicted of shooting and killing a 20-year-old man two years ago, and sentenced to 22 years for voluntary manslaughter.

McDowell was operating an active Facebook page with a smuggled cell phone, which has since been confiscated. The state’s Department of Corrections is talking with Facebook to shut the page down.
