WESTVILLE — Some of the offenders involved in a Monday riot at Westville Correctional Facility, which injured about a dozen inmates, have been transferred to other prisons.

Prison officials announced Thursday that shanks were involved in the fighting that involved about 100 offenders and lasted for about two hours.

WCF spokesman John Schrader said plastic toothbrushes with the ends sharpened along with the padlocks in socks were among the weapons recovered.

“They’ll make a weapon out of just about anything,” Schrader said.

According to prison officials, the disruptions occurred in the general services area of the low- to medium-security prison that holds more than 3,000 inmates.
