EUCLID, Ohio — Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the possibility that a drone dropped items into the Euclid Jail yard, officials said.

The incident happened sometime last week, Cuyahoga County spokeswoman Mary Louise Madigan said Tuesday.

A corrections officer noticed something drop items into the jail yard, Madigan said. She would not say exactly what items were dropped into the yard.

The county runs the Euclid Jail, which only houses federal inmates.

No charges have been filed in connection with the incident.

The smuggling of drugs and other contraband into county-run jails has recently been an issue.

Cuyahoga County Jail officer Stephen Thomas is facing charges that accuse him smuggling drugs, cellphones and vape pens into the downtown Cleveland jail and selling them to inmates.

Prosecutors with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office have said they are investigating a possible drug and contraband ring at the downtown jail.
