Teacher resigns after sending photos to inmate

Prison had intercepted a package containing items that included photos of students and staff

NEENAH — A second-grade teacher at Tullar Elementary School was removed from her job after she sent pictures of her students in school settings to a prison inmate.

Students’ parents were notified in a letter sent home Thursday afternoon.

The teacher, Christina Peerenboom, was removed from her duties on Jan. 25. She was put on paid leave to give the district time to consider its options, but she resigned Thursday morning before administrators discussed whether she would be fired.

At a news conference Friday afternoon, district Superintendent Mary Pfeiffer said she was informed last week the prison had intercepted a package containing items that included photos of students and staff. Those items were never viewed by the inmate, but after a search of the inmate’s cell, three other photos were found.
