ROGERSVILLE, Tenn. — A Hawkins County woman who reported to jail Saturday to begin serving a sentence for previous charges including smuggling drugs into jail was charged again after jail officers allegedly found pills in her clothes.
Debra Sue Rogers, 43, of Rogersville reported to the Hawkins County Jail on Saturday morning to begin serving a sentence related to a previous charge of introduction of drugs into a penal facility and driving on a revoked license.
Rogers was originally arrested last March 16 for driving on a revoked license third offense. Upon being booked into jail March 16, Rogers was found with a small amount of cocaine and oxycodone in her possession.
After several continuances, Rogers was sentenced to serve 30 days in jail, which was to be served on weekends beginning Saturday morning when she was charged again.
“As corrections officers were inventorying Ms. Rogers’ property, a plastic baggie fell from a folded shirt,” Sheriff Ronnie Lawson said. “Corrections officers determined the baggie to contain loose tobacco, cigarettes, rolling papers, a lighter, along with an assortment of pills.”
An officer of the HCSO Narcotics Unit was called in to investigate, and that officer identified one pill as a Carisoprodal, which is generic for Soma and a Schedule IV controlled substance.
The officers then identified a yellow pill as a Clonazepam, which is a generic for Klonopin and also a Schedule IV controlled substance.
The officer also recovered a corner of a plastic bag that was tied and contained what appeared to be crushed up pills that were later identified as Oxycodone, which is a Schedule II controlled substance.
In the same plastic bag, the officer allegedly recovered numerous clear capsules containing an unknown grayish colored substance.
Rogers agreed to speak with a detective and allegedly claimed ownership of all the illegal substances recovered.
She was charged with possession of Schedule II narcotics, two counts of possession of Schedule IV narcotics, possession of a controlled substance inside a penal institution and possession of drug paraphernalia.
As of Sunday, Rogers was being held in the Hawkins County Jail on $100,000 bond.
