W. Va. — An investigation is under way in West Virginia to determine if prison guards are covering up for each other after they break the law.

Regional Jail Executive Director Joe De-Long says 15 correctional officers from the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville are on suspension for using excessive force against inmates or for bringing contraband into the jail.

De-Long says he’s concerned about a “buddy system,” in which he believes some of the guards are covering up the violations, and that it worries him more than the use of force.
