ABBEVILLE, Ga. — A suspect is in custody after he breached the perimeter of a south Georgia prison early Tuesday morning.
WALB reports that just before 1 a.m., someone breached the perimeter of Wilcox State Prison before encountering a CO and pulling out a gun. The CO opened fire, but no one was hit.
A manhunt ensued once the unidentified suspect fled, but the suspect was later caught by the Crisp County tracking team, police dogs and a GSP helicopter before 6 a.m.
Joan Heath, Georgia DOC spokeswoman, said that officials believe the suspect tried to drop off contraband at the facility, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Two packages were recovered at the property.
No other details were released.
