Chicago, Ill. - The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is the most significant piece of health care legislation in the United States in 45 years. The choices being made today will have a significant impact on health outcomes for inmates, treatment of mental illness in the community, correctional health care costs and even recidivism. In two plenary sessions at the Correctional Health Care Leadership Institutes on July 19-20 in Las Vegas, participants will learn what they need to do to prepare for the ACA.
In addition, the conference, sponsored by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC), will prepare physicians and health administrators to meet goals such as reducing risk and providing quality care under strict budgets while providing them with tools for optimal staffing, outsourcing and outcome measurement. The conference will offer simultaneous programming in essential and advanced tracks for both physicians and health administrators taught by seasoned correctional health care experts. Attendees may choose their sessions and customize their experiences. The program will end with a plenary session on the Prison Rape Elimination Act, supported by the National PREA Resource Center and the Bureau of Justice Assistance.
