PIMA, Ariz. -- A Pima County inmate died after swallowing a plastic bag filled with an unknown substance and fighting with corrections officers, authorities said.
The officers noticed Michael Stephen Judge, 47, acting suspiciously in his cell Tuesday, according to Jason S. Ogan, spokesman for Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
When officers investigated, Judge swallowed the bag and began fighting with the officers, Ogan said, adding that the inmate eventually stopped breathing.
Authorities tried to revive him with CPR, the Heimlich Maneuver and an automated defibrillator until paramedics arrived, Ogan said.
