SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Clark County Jail will continue an inmate medication program that’s projected to save $33,800 next year.

The jail this year contracted with a Pennsylvania pharmacy that offers prescriptions in blister packs and gives credit for unused doses, said Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly.

Prior to the switch, the jail was spending about $200,000 annually purchasing loose pills in 30-day bottles for the 100 to 150 inmates who need medication daily, Kelly said.

And any leftover medication purchased in the previous program had to be disposed of, Kelly said. “People come and go constantly ... and we had to destroy that medication in many cases.”
