ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio — One inmate has been killed and five others injured by a lightning strike at the Belmont Correctional Institution in eastern Ohio, according to prison officials.
The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. as thunderstorms moved into the area while inmates were out in the rec. yard, the Wheeling News-Register is reporting.

According to the Chillicothe Gazette, 33-year-old Dalin Anderson of northeast Ohio’s Summit County and another inmate were taken to a hospital, where Anderson was pronounced dead. Prison spokeswoman Kathy Cole said the other inmate was still hospitalized Tuesday with injuries that are not life threatening.

Anderson has been in prison since 2005 on charges of drug possession and illegal possession of chemicals. He was scheduled for released in 2014.
