BAY CITY, Mich. — Though it’s been confirmed that a Bay County Jail inmate has contracted meningitis, it’s still unclear what kind, according to the Bay County Health Department.
MLive reports that the worst case scenario would be bacterial meningitis, which can only be transmitted through direct contact with mouth or nasal secretions.
The Health Department has advised the facility on how to prevent the spread of the virus.
Precautions included locking down the jail Monday morning and giving antibiotics to inmates in the same cell block, as well as anyone who may have come into contact with those inmates.
The jail is continuing to be monitored.
