‘Pickle-sucker’ remark riles prison nurses

May file a complaint for sexual harassment for what they call a blatant double entendre

SALINAS VALLEY, Calif. — Even Peter Piper would avoid this pickle.

Salinas Valley State Prison nurses said they were embittered Friday that the federal receivership seemingly addressed recent complaints by telling them to “take the pickle out of [their] mouths.”

Now, those nurses say they’re considering filing a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleging sexual harassment for what they call a blatant double entendre.

A representative of California Correctional Health Care Services, which monitors health care at California’s prisons, says sexual harassment was absolutely not the federal receivership’s intent when it put forth “the pickle challenge.”
