PHILADELPHIA — Mayor Nutter says his administration is involved with the effort to resolve the dispute between Philly’s prison healthcare contactor, Corizon, and its union, Henry Nicholas’ 1199C.
“We’re in active discussions,” Nutter said. “We’re in active conversation. That’s always the best thing.”
He declined to comment on the status of negotiations.
The unions’ three contracts with Corizon expired Nov. 26. The two sides are at loggerheads over a new deal because, Nicholas wrote, the company’s “best and final offer” to 1199C included major health benefit changes that will cost workers and wage increases that won’t make up the difference.
Corizon has still not responded to a request for comment.
