JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. — A program aimed at making Jefferson County Jail inmates employable once they are released will be expanded, Sheriff Mark Pettway announced Wednesday.

Some of the skills and assistance offered by this program are job preparation, comprehensive case management, identifying barriers to employment, needs assessment, career exploration and planning, legal assistance, counseling and assistance with linking inmates to the social services required to help them transition back to their communities.

Authorities Wednesday announced the expansion of the program will include increased funding through Pathway Homes and a federal grant. Dannon Project director of marketing and outreach Alvin Garrett said the reentry group will deal with inmates ages 18 through 59 with six months or less remaining on their jail or prison sentence.
