BRISBANE, Australia — An Australian chef is believed to have killed and cooked his girlfriend before slashing his own throat.
The Courier Mail reports that police were called to the apartment of Mayang Prasetyo and her chef boyfriend Marcus Peter Volke after concerns were raised over an “eye-watering” smell.
Inside, authorities found a body part inside a pot, believed to be that of Prasetyo, on the stove.
Volke was still alive when authorities arrived, and fled the scene. His body was found shortly after with a fatal self-inflicted throat wound.
Residents reported hearing loud arguments coming from the apartment up to a week ago, and a foul smell since Thursday.
It is believed human remains were found in a large pot on the stove and in garbage bags.
Officers were seen carrying shovels into the apartment on Monday, and large barrels were wheeled into the unit on Sunday.
