CORFU, Greece — A hero dog foiled a group of convicts’ attempts to break out of prison - by uncovering their escape tunnel.
The pet was out for a morning walk with its owner when it stopped at a spot outside a jailhouse on the Greek island of Corfu after becoming suspicious of some noises yesterday morning.
The stubborn pooch refused to budge, and its confused owner then heard the noise coming from the inmates below and alerted a prison guard.
Police found a 30-metre-long tunnel, starting from Corfu Prison’s B Wing, where some 21 convicts serving long or life terms are caged.
Inside the underground tunnel, battery-powered fans and plastic food containers were found, according to local news reports.
